Pit Barrel Cooker Part A - unit assembly pictures and impression
« Reply #-1 on: November 28, 2012, 12:21:17 AM »
Received this yesterday evening - and as geeky as it may sound - I was VERY impressed with the quality of the shipping/packing materials. It shows that the manufacturer really is concerned with the product arriving in perfect condition.

The cardboard header to protect the drum lid handle NOTE: The instruction sheet you see  is one page - of good sized type - one side of the sheet of paper...easy to read, easy to understand.

And inside the bolsters on either side of the cardboard - the free rubs, and the meat hooks

And - inside the drum - the grill grate and rebar

Remove the grate and rebar - now you can see the charcoal basket

The charcoal basket - heavy duty construction! This will not burn out int he foreseeable future! like..never...? ;D

One last piece...the stand for the Pit Barrel.

Nice - should be able to use this on my deck....plenty of air gap beneath the barrel

And the lid...

Seriously folks - look at the heavy duty boxing...this says - "We Make Quality - and we care about it getting to you in good condition"

Here it is re-assembled! Took all of 10 minutes - including taking pictures -  to take it out of the box, and put it together. NO TOOLS NEEDED!

Impressions: Excellent quality. I have to be honest - at the is price point, I am rarely impressed with any cooking device. THIS unit is simple, and built with durable materials, Fit and finish are quite nice.

Part B will be a cook.

Looks good, Tee.  Didn't you tell me the other day that your wife said you had "too many toys" on the deck?  This one doesn't rtake up much room at all.  Waiting for the cook.  What is on the agenda?  Pig candy??

I've seen you guys rip through butts/ribs/briskets/chickens and turkeys..

How bout a smaller/leaner cut of meat that is more sensitive to time & temperature abuse.  Perhaps a 1/2 pork loin?

The folks at PBC do care about how they package them, don't they!

I am so sorry you have to awake each day to that gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge mountains in the background, Tee!  ::)

Looks awesome Tee. Did I see that Sparky had one on wheels? Is that an upgrade option? Looks like it doesn't take up a lot of real estate on the deck.....which might help me in negotiations ;)

I think Sparky would put wheels on a canary! :D Seriously - you could purchase a furniture dolly to set it on for moving around - but I don't  personally recommend firing it up while on wheels. Nor do I suspect the PBC would either....I think Sparky keeps grills in rotation between his house, Smokeasaurus, and Nepas' place - so having them on wheels just makes it easier to wheel 'em around the country! :D :D :D

It is very compact in it's width. It will fit in a lot of places that other cookers will not. Bear in mind you do need some free and clear room all the way around for safety concerns when you use it. But - it is not real heavy - so - moving it is a breeze too!

The care and pride theat PBC puts in their product definately shows in the packaging! And it is a great cooker. I think Sparky uses a drum dolly for his wheels.

Don't forget about a pc of HD foil in the bottom Tee, makes clean-up a snap!! No dumping the barrel over leaving a sandy trail down the side!!
