First cook on Pit Boss 700FB
« Reply #-1 on: July 04, 2017, 07:26:17 PM »
It was a wild ride for my first cook on the 700FB but the results were excellent. When I first started it I thought I was going to burn down the house. (see pic) Smoked 3 lb rack of ribs with setting of 225. Three hours on the grate meat side up. Spritzed every 30 minutes after the first hour. Wrapped and added butter, brown sugar and honey and let it go for 1 1/2 hours meat side down. Removed foil, placed on a cooling rack, glazed both sides and put back on to firm up for 30 minutes. Recipe is from Malcom Reid. Used homemade Memphis Dust for the rub.

The cook was an up and down ride with the temperature. Had it set at 225 P6. Temp cycled from 204-298 many times during the cook. Only opened the lid to quickly spritz. The end result was very pleasing. Probably one of the best racks of ribs I've ever done. Tender, moist, nice bark but very slight smoke ring.

Great first cook. The Pit Boss line of pellet grills are affordable and those temp swings are programmed in for more smoke  8)

I've never owned a pellet grill before and bought this one based on your review of the Pit Boss 700 and nukeofficer posts of his cooks. It is definitely going to be a learning experience but looking forward to it.
I got it at WalMart for under $400 so that is not too bad for a toe dipping effort. The PB pellets are also very reasonable. 40 lbs for $20.00

Smoke, you are batting 1000. I got my Open Range based on your review too and it is something I won't part with until the Fat Lady sings.  ;D

Thank You my friend for the kind words.

The flame broiler on the 700FB is really fun to use and even though it is a small area it can sear with the best. The Good One brand was a regional Missouri smoker that Chris Marks is slowly turning into a National Brand.

I have one more review left in me but it will not be for 3-4 months but it will be a fitting review to be my last one.  ;)
