Mother’s Day and an SRG
« Reply #-1 on: May 14, 2018, 08:03:08 AM »
Well had planned on doing a video but we had our grandson over night and that took a lot out of me.  I wanted to video step by step on cooking butts in an SRG but it will have to wait till next time :(

But y'all will just have to pretend and look at pictures ;)

I started by trimming the butts then slicing to gain more surface area, then I rubbed with CYM then add my rub to the butts and let them sit a few mins while I got my Tommy Ring smoker going and had the SRG set to HIGH setting.   I placed the butts in the basket with two baking racks and made sure to leave room in between the butts so they cook right

Those look fantastic! How would you describe texture/flavor/bark/moisture compared to a traditional low n slow smoked butt?

It's good, not like low and slow with a heavy smoke flavor but more like a nice slow cooked but without all the smoke but plenty of bark!

You just have to try one to know,.  I did take 7th place in aBBQ contest and most were stick burners/Webers Smokey mtn's or BGE's

I believe there was 19 folks in the comp

I know we cook to IT, but how long did it take to get there.  I've done a couple in TBE but it was so long ago I don't remember how long it took.

normal time is 4 to 5 hrs for two 8 lb butts.  These were 9.5 and a 10 lb butt.  They were still very cold in the center from being frozen and these took 6.5 hrs for the top butt 7 for the bottom.

The top butts always finish first
