Gadgetology is not a new thing....
« Reply #-1 on: March 02, 2013, 11:07:02 AM »
I had a discussion with an industry leader in pellet cooking, and we were going back and forth about the reasons more and more advanced "features"   on recent pellet grills.
The overall feeling was that "gadgetology" has become the normal course of product development, and marketing. However - the video in this link will show you that the quest for automation - even in areas other than cooking - is not a new thing. Bear in mind, this object was made over 200 years ago, with comparatively crude hand tools. Enjoy!

Great video and topic!

I cringe every time I hear someone refer to computers & electronics as "Technology." Heck, technology has been around as long as man. It's all around us, and is not limited to modern electronic devices or gadgets at all for that matter. The alphabet was technology that eventually led to the ballpoint pen and pencil. Now we use email and Internet forums to communicate. The invention of the wheel was technology that led to driving on paved roads instead of dirt roads.

Grilling/smoking/cooking technology is no different and has changed a lot. Pellet grills just happen to be an extension of that ever changing technology.

Very cool desk. Many great minds were ahead of their time. Even with today's technology that desk would be elaborate. Heck Da Vinci had conceptual drawings of a tank a long time before it ever saw WWI.
