Cheap pizza dough.
« Reply #-1 on: April 04, 2013, 06:20:03 PM »
I was in Walmart picking up a couple items and noticed that Jiffy had a box of pizza dough mix for $0.62.  Just add water, mix, and let stand 5 min.  I like their corn bread mix, so I figured I'd give it a try.  Then I saw a bag of Walmart's mix for $0.52.  Same instructions.  I got both.  Gave them a try tonight.  They tasted about the same.  The Walmart one seemed a little easier to work with.  They make a small pizza, but just the right amount for my cast iron skillet.  And they seem to take longer to cook than other doughs I have worked with.  Not bad, but won't replace my homemade dough nor the dough balls I get at Harris Teeter; however I'll get a couple more bags to keep in the pantry for last minute meals.

I think the package said you could make a 14", but mine were 10" in the skillet and the other was 12".

Wally world also sells ready made pizza dough in the refrigerated biscuit section, but I have never tried it. With my new Bright RED KitchenAid food processor I make pizza dough in about a minute. Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

The frozen Pizza dough at Wal-Mart is from some place in New York and pretty good.  I buy my pizza crusts from Sam's club.  They sell them 14 in a case for arount 17 bucks.  You get them from the small food counter where they sell hot dogs and stuff. Pretty good and they're 16 inches

Are they already rolled out for you? Are they thick or thin crusts?  Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

It's perfect timing for this thread. Out of the blue the wife said she wanted to make home made pizza, HUH  ??? . So on the way home from work tomorrow I am picking up the fixins and she is in charge of the dough. My plan is too get my Primo oval Xl as hot as it will get and cook a pizza on it indirect on a pizza stone. Guess a beer or two might be in order since tomorrow will be Friday ;D

I buy the Bob's Red Mill gluten free mix. Yea, I know.  Yuck. But I try to eat as much gluten free as I can.
But when I cheat, I get a ball of dough from a local pizzeria. $3.00.

Interesting!  Concerning the Jiffy, can you get it to work out nice and thin?

It was quite sticky when first mixed.  I sprinkled some flour on it which helped me to be able to work with it, but I was just squishing it into a skillet.  I didn't try  a traditional stretch on it.

The cases of frozen crusts are preformed 16" and are about like a nice hand tossed crust.  I make two at a time on my Traeger Texas 075.
