Got to meet some of the guys and a nice lady.
« Reply #-1 on: July 25, 2013, 04:52:28 PM »
I just got back from Lockhart, Texas, the BBQ capital of the world. This little but very nice community has four major BBQ joints and more so around it.

Got to me Mr. Teesquare and the very lovely, Mrs. Teesquare, Captain Jack, and IR2Dum. We all had a taste of BBQ at Smitty's market. I ordered a pound of brisket and the others sample a little of everything. We all took pictures and will be probably showing them shortly. However, I have to wait until my phone recharges so that it can upload my pictures from Dropbox to Photobucket.

Jaxon called us on the phone so we had an opportunity to visit with him as well.

As I left, I think that they were going visit and sample the other BBQ places. That's a lot of food.

We will update you guys when the pictures are ready.

Ed

Ed,   I know how it is to meet the people from here in person and in EVERY case it was been exceedingly pleasant and have become  friends for life.  Dee

Ok...the phone uploaded the photos from dropbox to photobucket so I start showing some pictures. The other guys took a lot of pictures as well and they will be posting soon, I am sure. So, I just finished folding laundry, fed the Golden, (Dixie), fed the cat, (Fluffy), grabbed a Shiner Bock Black Bohemium beer from the ice box and just sat in the chair.

Lockhart is a beautiful little Western town and all it has is BBQ for which it is very famous. Here is a picture of the BBQ joint called Smitty's Market.

That is Captain Jack taking a picture outside as well.

Here is a picture of one of the many pits that they have going all of the time.

Very simple eating.

Here's Don aka Ir2dum

Here's another fire pit. Notice that they use these whole logs about 3 feet long and about 10 inches thick.

Here's the menu. You order brisket by the pound which I actually did. You can order a ring of sausage, ribs, etc.

Here's the wood waiting to go into the pits.

Here's Mr. Teesquare, Mrs. Teesquare, and Captain Jack.

I thought that I had more but the camera ran out of battery.

I found a couple more pictures.

Here is Mr. and Mrs. Teesquare. You can easily tell that Mrs. Teesquare is the better half. And, she is definitely more pleasing to look at.

Here is the illustrious Captain Jack. His family, by the way goes back to 1831 settling in Texas from Tennessee which means they got to Texas before Davy Crockett. His ancestors fought at the battle of San Jacinto. He is also a combat veteran of the US Army Viet Nam and many thanks for his service to his country.

This is where you order your grub. They wrap all of the food in butcher paper, provide bread, crackers, a plastic knife and you go back to your table to eat. Side dishes can be obtained along with drinks at the counter inside the A/C eating area. The area near the pits must be 100 degrees or more. With all of the BBQ pits in Texas going at the same time, no wonder it is 98 degrees in the summer.

I think that is it for now. I am sure the other folks will be posting there pictures soon.

Thanks, Ed - great pictures. And you are certainly right about the better half of the T's!
