Just had to tell
« Reply #-1 on: July 31, 2013, 11:17:48 PM »
One year ago today I quit working for a living and retired.
Can't say as I'm sorry and in-fact the Supreme Commander and I seem to be having a great time. She does occasionally accuse me of retiring so that I could spend more time with the grill. :) Gee, she doesn't seem to mind that one at all.
Just got back from a week at the beach in the motorhome and had a great time.

Don't mean to rub it in but just couldn't stand not telling someone (okay -- everyone).
Everyone is good at something....
I just happen to be a good bad example.

Definition of RETIRE

intransitive verb
1 to withdraw from action or danger : retreat
2 to withdraw especially for privacy <retired to her room>
3 to move back : recede
4 to withdraw from one's position or occupation : conclude one's working or professional career
5 to go to bed

To retire is not so bad. It gives one the opportunity to reflect and plan a new adventure. I have made a career out of retiring. I retired from the Marine Corps, from the business world, and I try to get some sleep every night if not every afternoon.

Grilling or smoking food is a great hobby which can become a passion. Being retired only provides the opportunity to learn more about this interesting hobby and the time to perfect the skills required to prepare good food and cook it the way you want.

Someone once said "it is too bad that youth is wasted on the young". If you have the physical dexterity and wisdom that you have collected over a life time, then your "retirement" provides the opportunity to engage in many new adventures.

I retired three times but could not seem to get the hang of it as I went back to work full time after each retirement. This time I decided to try a gradual approach so I went from 40+ hours down to 20 or so. It is working good for now and I find wish I wasn't even working that much.  I may retire completely in the next year or so.

Congratulations!

You may want to keep your retirement a secret in your neighborhood ;)...Somehow our friends and family think that when you retire - you have plenty of time for their projects, or that they feel compelled to help prevent you from becoming bored...

If you are not careful, you will become so busy - that you will have to go back to work - in order to have some time off! :D

Great wisdom, Ed.
I am looking forward to retiring at the end of the year and I am truly looking forward to new adventures - in cooking and elsewhere.
