A Weber question
« Reply #-1 on: October 02, 2013, 01:59:28 PM »
Okay, I bought this Weber kettle from a lady who has had it or 6 years.  She got it from her sister who used it a while.
I am tryin' to figger how old it is.  Here are the clues:
1. it has wooden handles
2. it has 3 three-hole vents on the bottom instead of 1
3. it is is good shape except for the grates - the lid and legs fit tight

Can ya help me?

Jaxon,

Look on the lid vent and there should be a letter or 2 letters.
Once you find them, go to http://weberkettleclub.com/determine-age-of-old-grill/.
They have a chart where you can look and see.  Hope this helps.

if there is no 2 letters it should say pat pending on the top daisy wheel.  the 3 hole daisy wheels on the bottom (3 of them) makes is a late 70's kettle.  mine has medal handles and it is a '74.  the wooden handles appeared and the end of the 70's.  my guess would be '78 - '80 kettle.   8)  can we get a bigger picture of it.

Great info Mike!  I've always wondered how old my old Kettle is.  We inherited it when we moved into the house we live in 13 years ago.  ???  I'll be checking this afternoon.

Thanks!

Edit: Just checked - Our old 22" one-touch silver has a letter "J" making it a 1987 model, 26 years old.

I spent quite a while this evening cleaning up this new old "Weber-Stephen Products Co." kettle grill.  It has the letter "K" on the vent, designating 1988.  It is in pretty good condition.  The only ting that is crapped out is the front handle...half of it is missing.
I hope to use it Friday when IR2DUM stops in for supper on his way back to Houston.  Probably do some Orange Soda Hot Wings...he likes those.  Ribs, too, for my good friend.

I'll post a video this weekend...for now, here's a snapshot before I  cleaned it.

Thanks, Smoke...I'll check it out.

My next door neighbor does some good woodworking.  I'm gonna check with him this weekend.  The handle is in two parts.  The front side is missing, but the backside is still in good shape.  Just need that one piece to make it whole.  The handle on the lid is good.  Might wrap it a few times with duct tape to keep it secure. not!!!
