Weekend update.. Wounded Warrior results...
« Reply #-1 on: November 06, 2013, 09:02:46 AM »
Been meaning to post....but my Daughter has been in Hospital the past 3 days. We are waiting for surgery....have a few minutes...

da Wreckn Q finished top 10...out of 25. We took 3rd Ribs & 9th chicken !! Some big hitters were there. Our stupid team captain sent pulled pork to our brisket turn in..what a dumb arse!!! Luckily they made an exception since this was non-sanctioned to judge our entries. We still managed top 15 in those categories.

Saving the best for last. Our Wounded Warrior was a great guy. All he wanted to do was talk "Q" and learn all he could!!! He busted his butt working the pits. We ended up using a UDS as a heater. It got down to low 40's and the wind blew pretty good. Isreal kept the fire steady. I tell you I am very honored to have cooked with him. We shared space with 3 brothers from El Paso, Tx. One stationed @ Ft Riley, Ft Bragg and Ft Benning. One was a Wounded Warrior. We had a great time with these American Heros also. They loved my Smoked Mac & Cheese I made for them. I will post more and some pics when I get home to the computer.

Dang Doc... you weren't supposed to catch that quick! ;) ;D As soon as I handed Isreal and my Daughter the container to turn in and they left the trailer; I went to the cambro to pull out the pork but and prep it for turn in. Shut the cambro and BOOM it hit me, pulled the paper out of my pocket, looked and went "crap". Like I said, the head judge came to the trailer and I immediately laughed and said "what can I say?". He said they had discussed it and were going to go ahead and score my pulled pork (I abbreviating PP, I ain't forgot the last person who did that!) and brisket if I could get it to the judging area quickly. I appreciate their making an exception for my  mistake. I wasn't going to win and would not have accepted the win if I had scored.

To all my other friends, thank you for the thoughts and prayers for Savannah; She is going through and endoscopy to hopefully remove the gall stone that is blocking her ducts. If they get it out, the "surgeon" will then remove the gallbladder.  This is why this sight is so much more to me than a "BBQ forum" but family.
