You are correct Tim. I used to use the stuff when backpacking. It's a cheap, lightweight source of protein that requires no refrigeration(dried version). When hydrated (dried version), using water, tomato sauce, etc. it takes on the taste of seasoning, and the texture is exactly as ground meat/burger.

For those that want a "meaty" bite ...try some TVP....Textured Vegetable Protein. It cooks up like ground beef, is made from soy, and accepts seasoning well. As shocking as it may be, I have made meat-free dishes with it that no one could guess that it was not ground beef.
tofu works the same...just gotta flavor it..me..I'll pass.  lol    .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Uh....no - tofu does not have the "bite and chew" factor of the TVP. You can make Sloppy Joe's or a meat sauce for spaghetti using TVP, and you will not know the difference from ground beef.
It is granular, like the hale and size of ground beef, and way more firm than any tofu, tempeh or any other type of tofu.
I have never heard of tvp..will have to look for it and try it..but I know hubby is not gonna like it..he doesn't like anything his mother did not make..geezzzz.  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.
