First Tri-Tip
« Reply #-1 on: May 28, 2012, 10:31:09 PM »
2.5 lb tri-tip, marinated in Italian dressing with a splash of worshishire  for 5 hours.
Smoked for 30 min., then in fridge while skillet taters & valdalia onions, roasted corn, & grilled zucchini cooked.
Tri -tip seasoned with Lawry's , pepper & garlic & grilled over high heat till internal was 120F & rested 10 minuted.
Very tasty, came out perfect rare.

LA that looks good.

Your cut does not look like a Tri-tip as I am used to seeing it. Perhaps due to the inexperience of the butcher?

Great flavor, reminded me of a thick sirloin.

It actually comes off of the  bottom sirloin- as a separate muscle. And - often it gets sliced up as sirloin, or even flank ( incorrectly - )

That looks killer good!  Cooked just the way I like 'em. YUM!!!!!!

Great taste buds! That's because it is a thick sirloin! :)

Tee nailed it; it's the very bottom of the bottom sirloin.  What I love is that with Tri-Tip you feel like you eating $13.99/lb steak. Tri-tip and regular bottom sirloin have absolutely become the steak of choice at our house.

My younger brother is an executive chef for an exclusive country club near Cleveland. For his & my mom's birthday last month we did a prime rib roast and a Tri-tip on the grill.  He'd never had Tri-tip before and couldn't believe how good it was.

That grilled zucchini looks pretty dang tasty too!
