Title: Lowering the grate position
Post by: PapaBob on March 06, 2016, 02:45:12 PM
In order to get a better crust on things like steaks, maybe wings and such, has anyone tried to lower the grate position say about 6 inches down closer to the coals.  That would still leave a good distance to prevent flair ups I think while taking advantage of higher heat closer to the coals. I'm thinking of adding three stainless steel screws down about 6 inches. Anybody tried this.  Any thoughts?

Maybe a couple of bricks on the bottom of the barrel to raise up the coal basket.............no drilling............. 8)

Great idea.  And easier.  Us engineers always seem to like to make the simple more difficult.  Thanks

I've had great success getting a nice crust on my steaks and great texture on my wings at the current setting

This was a steak I had done for my very first cook on my PBC...

I love the char I've been getting on wings as well...
