Title: First PBC yard bird
Post by: mikecorn.1 on November 29, 2012, 03:02:22 PM
All I got to say is A++. Like Noah says, pour the charcoal, hit it with fluid, place it in the PBC and light that baby up. 20 Minutes Later its perfect ready for animal parts.

This presentation brought to you by iPhone and PBC. 16 ft above sea level and 70F outside. Slight breeze.

Almost done. Pic is an optical illusion, they are hanging perfectly.  ???

Done in 1 hr. Awesome flavor, very juicy. Used the All Purpose Pit Rub that came in it    IT was right at 170F. I did close the vent half way so that it would not burn so as hot. VERY IMPRESSED.

JUICY :)

Threw in some jalapeño, cheese sausage to take advantage of the charcoal. Yumm! Smokey charcoal flavor.

I did line the bottom with heavy duty foil for easy clean up later.
This is what I wanted for a long time a set it And forget it charcoal pit. (As Smoke says ;))

EDIT:  After taking the meat out with the supplied hook take it outer stick ;) so that you dont burn your hands and you take the bird inside, don't attempt to take out the hooks out of said meat bare handed. Don't ask me how I know. ;D:) and I'm not talking about the pointy end on them.
Also don't attempt to take out the metal rods out without gloves. Don't ask me how I know that ALSO.

BIT ANXIOUS TO TAKE OUT THE BIRD TO TASTE IT.  LOL!!

OUCH!!!!

I left the lid off after I took the bird out. Went back outside after a while and the PBC WAS SCREAMING for more. Lol!!

Score!! My wife says this is the best chicken that's come out of any of my cookers. She said she loves the nice charcoal smokey flavor.
By the way, I smell like charcoal smoke and I like it :o ;D. Do I have a problem ???

I got some linemen gloves that we use at work if we encounter anything that is energized. Yeah, hours later the steel rods were still hot. Don't ask me how I found out. ;D I was taking them out to dump out the ashes and put a cover over it.
Kinda like taking the bubba pucks out of the Bradley bare handed. :P

The wife asked, what did I use to season the chicken with.  I told her, the
Free sample seasoning that came with the Pit Barrel Cooker. (All purpose). She said "I love it, it's so good". I went under  the skin also with it. She couldn't believe how juicy the chicken was when it came out. Especially since the bird was cut in half.
Think my mom is going to get one,
She also misses cooking with charcoal.

Good info Mike. I'm going to break mine in this weekend, weather permitting. Freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning here.  :'(
I like that you mentioned the rub under the skin. I would not have thought of that!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
