Lowering the grate position
« Reply #-1 on: March 06, 2016, 02:45:12 PM »
In order to get a better crust on things like steaks, maybe wings and such, has anyone tried to lower the grate position say about 6 inches down closer to the coals.  That would still leave a good distance to prevent flair ups I think while taking advantage of higher heat closer to the coals. I'm thinking of adding three stainless steel screws down about 6 inches. Anybody tried this.  Any thoughts?

Great idea.  And easier.  Us engineers always seem to like to make the simple more difficult.  Thanks

I've had great success getting a nice crust on my steaks and great texture on my wings at the current setting

This was a steak I had done for my very first cook on my PBC...

I love the char I've been getting on wings as well...
