Two ways to light the PBC using Kingsford Briquets
« Reply #-1 on: May 01, 2013, 12:47:14 PM »
Hey everyone, we have replaced our old lighting video with a much better video showing two ways to light your PBC, using both a chimney and lighter fluid. Remember it's important to follow the instructions that come with your PBC and to keep your PBC covered when you're not using it. :) Amber

Good video Amber. Looks like I need to stock up on more lighter fluid ;)

People also need to remember to clean out the ash from the bottom. When the ash mixes with moisture it can become  corrosive and can eat away at the metal.

I cover the bottom of mine with HD aluminum/tin foil to make it easy to clean...helps a lot.

I'm still amazed that good lighter like Kingsford burns cleanly away and leaves no odor or flavor.  Tried it when I couldn't find my chimney.  Don't buy the cheap stuff though.  Dollar store charcoal lighter smells like the north end of a southbound Peterbuilt  :o

I've never had a problem using Kingsford - charcoal and lighter fluid in my PBC - no off taste when following the instructions. I do use a chimney for my 500X and the Performer has its own propane based lighter. One of my brothers claims that he can taste any briquette in a cook. He'll be out here this summer and we'll do a blind test to see about his "taster"...  ;D ;)

Hey Noah,

Great video. A perfect answer for those who do not like using lighter fluid. Personally, I've followed your instructions and never had a problem or bad taste. But for those who are concerned - this is a great way to go. Thank you!

I did my second cook last evening and followed the "lighter fluid" protocol. Worked perfectly.
