Title: short on time sardines dinner
Post by: 1Bigg_ER on January 27, 2015, 10:48:39 PM
I'm I don't really dig on canned food but I keep some wild caught sardines and salmon handy for emergencies.
Came home late from work, kids are wailing talking about "daddy I'm hungry. I say give me 15 minutes.
So I pull out a batch of my homemade pasta from the freezer, dump it in boiling water. Meanwhile I saute some onions, garlic. Add a dap of tomato paste, some capers and a touch of Sriracha. Add 2 cans of wild caught sardines.

pasta is done, mix that mess up and plate.

Ladies and gentlemen, quick dinner is served.

I pretty much put those devils in every pasta dish and most chicken dishes.

I love anchovies. I sneak them into every stew or braise.

I can't do salmon or sardines, but am ok with the anchovies. Love the capers too.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Funny, if I told my wife I was making a dinner with sardines or anchovies, she would have a fit. But if there is a smelt fry at the local bar - oh boy here we go!

Wow!  You are super creative with the sardines.  I'm ashamed to admit that I almost always eat them straight out of the can with a few crackers  ::)

You'd love this. The sardines are just warmed through in the sauce.

You just reminded me of a meal I had one time at Gannon's in St. Paul.  Their steaks were really good, but they had a special one night I was there - a huge plate of fried smelt, caught (netted/scooped up) earlier that day.  I couldn't eat them all.  In fact, I may have only eaten about half, as I recall.  They were delicious.
