I bought a nice looking Angus eye round a while back atg Sam's Club, with the intention of making some Italian beef sandwiches with it. I finally got around to making it up, starting yesterday. I precooked the eye round on my MAK, using some really great smelling cherry pellets from Lumber Jack. I cooked the eye round to about 125 IT. I pulled it off the grill and wrapped in foil and tossed into the fridge overnight. This morning I broke out my slicer and thin sliced that great looking piece of meat. I received several packages of Louie’s Italian Beef Au Jus Seasoning, if I recall correctly, from Chili. He sent me some the last time I made this wonderful meal. This meal is dedicated to you, my friend. Unlike Sparky, I will make this a “talky”.
This is the eye round, fresh off the MAK.

A peek at the inside of the eye round before I started slicing.

A pile of goodness, waiting to be dropped into the crock pot.

Here is the Louie’s Italian Beef Au Jus Seasoning I used.

The seasoning was mixed up in the crock pot, and the meat was added next.

Based on the last time I made this, I decided to add three thinly sliced sweet onions and a jar of pepperocini, juice and all.

A “peek” at everyone in the pool after about an hour.

The smells coming from the crock pot filled my whole house. Dinner was going to be really good tonight!!

Time to start putting my plate together. First, a hoagie roll sliced, layered with provolone cheese and under the broiler to melt the cheese.

Here is my plate, ready to eat!! I layered the Italian beef with onions and pepperocini on top of the melted cheese on the hoagie
roll. To make it a complete meal, I added some Giadineria (have to have some veggies) and of course, a few tater chips.

I should have worn a bib. As it was, I ended up having to use three paper towels. This was one drippy/messy meal!! But worth every drip! If you haven’t tried Italian beef, you should give it a try.

Italian beef isn't available around here. I went to Chicago with some friends and I couldn't get them to stop for Italian beef. I was out voted each time. Now that I see yours, I'm even madder about that trip.

That looks fantastic.

Get some Louie's and make your own. You won't be sorry.

Amazon has 8-packs of Louie's. Pretty decent price - about what I pay at the store up the street.

I've used it as a beef rub as well. Wooster as 'glue'. Makes for a tasty crust. ;D
Dang, now I might have to pick up an eye of round at lunch... They are on sale.

That was very interesting, adding the smoke flavor and thin slicing. I usually put onions and garlic in the bottom of a crock pot with banana peppers and add a sirloin tip and slowly cook. Anxious to try your way next. Thanks for sharing.

I ordered mine online..then noticed it in the grocery store, Meijers, in with the packaged stuffs, like chili mixes, beef stews, etc. It is perfect with the onions and gahhlick and I use pepperoncini peppers. they are a lil zingier. Slice beef by putting it in the freezer for a lil bit, makes it easier to slice, but don't freeze it. A lil smoke here would be good too. You can't mess this up..I got the recipe from LTBBQ forum. It's killer beef. Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Dangit Art, now you tossed something out I have got to try ;) That looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking good!

An additional thought on preparation of the Italian Beef. I did not put any additional garlic above whatever was included in the Louie's. I will be adding some powdered garlic when I reheat the beef for dinner tonight. My son said that he thought it needed more garlic. I agree. It was missing something, and I believe that it the lack of garlic.

A day without garlic is a day without sunshine! I also ordered additional packets from Amazon. I absolutely love Chicago Beef sandwiches. The bread is also key. Great post, thank you!
