I am now the only one in the house that likes BBQ sauce (my wife has developed allergies, including Honey so she doesn't trust any of them.) I have thrown 5 bottles away in the past 2 months, most of which were still two thirds full, but way past expired date. My question is; Have any of you tried freezing BBQ sauce? I was thinking of pouring the sauce into ice cube trays and freezing the cubes, I could then take out a few cubes of sauce for myself at the beginning of the week. I always value the groups vast experience and input here on the forum, I appreciate any replies to this post. Don.

You may want to add in a step: once frozen - vacuum bag 'Q cubes....The reason is that freezers are are de-hrydrating environment, and your cubes with remain better - longer if you can stabilize the moisture content. Further, they will not be able to adsorb that freezed burn aroma we all love to hate.
The auto defrost cycle really pays havoc with the lifespan of any product that is not vacuum packed as well. Meat will keep much longer - as I will bet you already know ;) But the same is even more true for products higher in water content - like your BBQ sauce cube project.
Keep us posted on this one, I think it is a great idea Don!

Don I agree with T, Don

I think most commercial sauces will freeze with no problems. They all have a fairly high water content and there is nothing in the spicing that will change flavor via freezing and thawing. Won't cost much to give it a try ;D

Like chicken broth I freeze, just pour the sauce into ice cube trays let it freeze then remove and vacuum seal the ice sauce. Then just get out what you need and keep the rest frozen

Hmmm - I just keep it refrigerated and never worry about the expiration date. I assume that most have enough acidity that they won't spoil if kept in the fridge. My homemade stuff I pressure can in pint jars so that is not really and issue since I open a pint at a time.

haven't even looked for a expiration date. Might have to do some looking when I get a chance.

WOW, Thanks TMB, I would have never thought of the chicken broth. What a great idea (you have no idea how much we have disposed of over the years). I'm definitely going to go forward with this. ;)
