Recently I was given a laser thermometer to add to my bag of tricks and let me tell you, this thing is cool! Anyone else using one of these things along with a traditional probe thermometer? By knowing the surface temp of your grill you can better gauge if your too hot or too cool for what it is your cooking. Suddenly I feel like I have complete control over my coals.

I use a laser to measure the oven temperature in a wood-fired outdoor unit - works great and you can instantly recognize temperature differentials in various areas. I'm mostly concerned about the oven floor temperature because I bake the pizzas directly on the floor.
