Title: Christmas Cookies
Post by: veryolddog on December 08, 2013, 02:19:25 PM
My grandson is coming over today, so I decided to make some Christmas Cookies for him to enjoy after dinner or before dinner or during dinner, whatever.

What I did is use a recipe, unwritten, of course, and stored in my head from my Mom when she baked a specific Jewish dish called Hamentoshen. It consists of the following:

1. 1 cup of butter which equals 2 sticks of butter.
2. 1 cup of sugar
3. 1 tbs of vanilla
4. zest of 1 orange
5. zest of 1 lemon
6. 1 package of Philly cream cheese
7. 2 eggs

;D Make sure the butter and cream cheese is softened for a mixer.

;D Cream together the above ingredients until they are smooth.

;D Add 3 cups of sifted all purpose flour until a smooth dough and texture is achieved. The dough should not be sticky and easy to roll. If it appears sticky, then add a little bit of flour until you have the texture you are looking for.

;D Roll the dough into one inch balls and place on an un-greased cookie sheet. Using your thumb, punch an impression deep enough to hold some preserves of your choice. I used peach and strawberry. Then place a 1/2 teaspoon of preserves into the depression.

;D Preheat your oven for 375 degrees. Place the cookie tray into the oven and bake for 23 minutes.

;D When you remove the cookies, place the tray on a wire rack to cool for a few minutes, then, move to a serving plate.

;D After 15 minutes sprinkle the cookies with powdered confection sugar.

;D Then give them to someone else to eat because they are as fattening as hell.  :-\ :-\ :-\

My wife is my taster and she said they were good. Here's a few pictures of the process.

And, it gave me another opportunity to use this big fellow which made the results very easy!

You are putting it to great use. Noticed the paddle is different on your new model. Better at keeping the sides clean. I like it

That is the new swiper blade and it works perfectly. No more scraping down sides. It is on sale on qvc for $43.00. They sold the mixer on qvc yesterday for $389.00  free shipping and 6 easy pays. Good deal for the big Ka Huna. My swiper came with the mixer, but definately worth it.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི

Actually, that is an aftermarket beater blade that I purchased on Amazon.com.

:) New Metro Design Beater Blade for 5-Quart KitchenAid Bowl Lift Mixers

It cost me $21.00 but the price just went up a couple of dollars to $23.44.

I used it to make the cookies and it does work fairly well. It is worth the expenditure. First, visit the New Metro web site to get the model number to purchase that fits your Kitchen Aid Mixer. There are different ones for tilt heads and lift mixers. Also if you have 5 quart, 6 quart, or 7 quart mixer, you have pick the correct one. They have a chart. Then go to Amazon and sift through the product variations to get your model.

yeap, my wife too.  do the same thing except instead of a spoon full of jelly put a Hershey kiss in there the last minute of cooking.  you will love it (I like the kisses w/ almonds).  nice..... ;)
