Title: 7 old wives' tales about cooking steaks
Post by: deestafford on January 21, 2014, 09:09:10 PM
A long while ago I and many others here read the seven myths about cooking steaks being debunked.  Such as only flip a steak one time; let it sit out to get to room temperature; bone in has more flavor; and others.  It was really eye opening to me and made a lot of sense.  Go to www.seriouseats.com and search steak myths and you'll find the seven myths.  I'd put the link on but Jaxon ain't taught me how to do that yet.  He promised he teach me in 2018.  Dee

Hey Dee, no need to wait for Jaxon. Here is the link to the 7 Old Wive's Tales (http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/06/the-food-lab-7-old-wives-tales-about-cooking-steak.html?ref=search)

HOS - On Jaxon's behalf, I wish you hadn't done that. Now he won't have any excuse to relax for a few minutes ("I'm helping dee with some technical issues") instead of continuing with the long list of chores I'm sure his wife has assigned to insure an active retirement.

I have an old wife. If she tells me something is true, I do it.

Hard to quit some of those even if they are old wive's tales.  For me, the big one is not turning it with a fork.

The Good Eats page has lots of useful information, and this one was no exception.

I also want a big ole ribeye now.

I ain't skeered of cooking outside during this, as Foghorn Leghorn once described it, air-conditioned deep freeze, but I just don't want to. I am ready for spring!   8)

Plus there is nothing quite as satisfying as gnawing on a steak bone after you are done eating.

That is why I go ahead and put a roll of paper towels on the table. Sissy napkins just don't get the job done.
