How do you do it?
« Reply #-1 on: August 11, 2014, 08:06:36 PM »
What is your favorite way of getting the silk off an ear of  corn?

By the way,  do you know how many strands of silk are on an ear of corn?  The same number of kernels.  There is one for each kernel.  Apparently, that is the way the kernels grow with the silk being the flower.  I had questioned this and wanted to confirm, so I called The Turtle and he counted the number of kernels and strands of silk on four ears of corn and confirmed this information...useless as it maybe.

Hmmmm......and here I thought that The Turtle counted "corn" by the finger...Like when he hollers at the bartender - "Hey! - Fancypants!!!...I need 2 fingers and a splash of water"..... ::) 8) ;D

1.  I counted the silk and kernels on an entire bushel of corn and took the average. It worked out just as dee said it would ('cause he's one smart feller).

2.  I'm with devo on the best way to shuck corn. Dee - Try it when y'all get 'lectricity out there.

3.  I don't yell at bartenders or call them names and I don't drink corn whiskey ('cause I'm one smart reptile).

4.  I already have two fingers and they're just for you tee ('cause I'm also one rude reptile).

My wife tried the cut off the end and shake the corn out minus the silk, I was busy with something and didn't see her try it. I should have watched it since sometimes watching her do a simple task is funny!  ;D Don

I can have one shucked before you can cut through the cob!

Ah yes we all can do that but will it be as clean of all silk ??? When I was working I brought in cobs for my lunch. 5 minutes in the micro wave and chop the end off and I was eating corn on the cob. I can tell you this method works without a hitch.

You guys are too fussy about the silk, with my way there may be a little end slivers of silk left but it is edible too and after I smear butter all over it you don't notice it anyway! If we ever get together we'll have  race!!!  ;D Don

Us rednecks don't have enough teeth for silk to get caught between.  What's floss?  Dee
