Sooie’t Relief BBQ Benefit
« Reply #-1 on: August 21, 2014, 06:20:29 PM »
Me and my son-in-law are headed down to Greer, SC tomorrow for the Sooie’t Relief BBQ Benefit.  It's our first time cooking in a SC contest.

I believe a friend of ours is going to be judging there as well.  I know that give us any points, but it'll nice to sit down after the turn ins and share a drink.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. But . . . .

As a team we came in 32 out of 37.

While I had high hopes for my chicken, thanks to the help of good friend, we came in 34th.

The big surprise, again, this time, was the brisket.  I thought it was dry and a little tough, but it was our highest scorer at 22.

Well, time to regroup and get ready for another one in a couple of weeks.

Thanks, Spuds!

I'm going to take another run at the chicken to try and fine tune it.  When Hub and I first tried it, we discovered that we needed to shorten the cook time from our old method.

The good thing is that thighs, while labor intensive, are still pretty daggone cheap.  So, I'll be having the daughter and son-in-law down one weekend here shortly as guinea pigs ! ! ! !

The ribs I'm completely baffled by.  The one comment I got said that I did not remove the membrane.  Like that's not the very first thing I do after cutting open the vac-pac.

Got another contest in three weeks, so I have a little time.
