Where to buy Grass FED meats of all types?

(1/1)

catte:
Wondering who may know the best place on line, to order grass fed, non antibiotic/Organic meats that are not an arm and a leg to order?
Best prices you have found.
I found a place that sells nearby and the steak was the most incredible thing I ever tasted.
SUPER expensive tho.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Catte

Try some of your local farmer's markets. Ask around for ranchers that raise their livestock in the manner you prefer And - if you have a way to accommodate a large meat purchase (extra freezer...), talk to friends and family about buying an entire cow, and splitting it up between you.
It can save you a lot of money, and ensure better quality meat.

I had a friend buy 1/8 of a cow that was green fed up to the day if slaughter.  Some of the best meat, I have eaten, and the cost was $400+.  As a single guy is lasted him 18 months, but was a lot of ground beef, with maybe 15-20 steaks/roasts, and 20- 1.5lb packs of ground beef.

I agree with T, local farmers' markets (usually busiest and most populated on Saturday mornings) are the best source of local vendors.  Don't expect prices to match the supermarket, though.  Costs of raising small herds are significantly higher and slaughter costs are higher in small batches, too.  I have friends who raise goats, pigs and chickens for slaughter then take orders.

Grass-fed beef is popular nowadays but I think it tastes gamy like deer unless it is finished out on grain.  Ask the vendor how they approach the feed situation.

You can try Googling farm-raised or local meats but results are unpredictable and some sites answer as "local" even if they are a long way off.
