Cleaning the Grids

(1/4) > >>

Hub:
This short article relieves my conscience a little.  Where do you stand on the issue?

Some of us don't worry much about dirty grills and some of us are really neat freaks.  Here's your chance to indicate your preference.  We'll keep the poll open for seven days just in case you want to think about it  ::)

drholly:
FWIW - I do not clean the grates right after cooking, that's when I am serving my family or guests and eating. I clean them before the next cook as they pre-heat. The temp helps loosen things up and makes them easier to clean.

smokeasaurus:
I scrape the grates down as soon as the food comes off. Don't want to lose that great seasoning......

Smokin Don:
I use waded up aluminum foil on my grids and usually that gets the cooked on crud off. I am like David and busy after a cook so I clean before the next cook. For my Grillen Grates I use the flat back side most of the time and scrape with a putty knife. I have a wide screw driver I clean the ribbed side with. Every so often I crank the Gas grill to high and let it clean including the Grillen Grates. Don

tlg4942:
I pretty much follow Davids and Dons plan.
Also,  I burn the stuff off once in a while and clean it pretty good. I try to keep them oiled in between cooks if I'm not going to use it for a couple days. (Rare) But like this weekend we will be out of town so it won't get used.
So I'll spray the grid and emitter pan with oil.
Next week when I fire it up I'll let that smoke off and will be back in normal daily mode.

Now my Brother in Law ..... He is renting a place that has a grill with Grill Grates or something very similar on it. I cannot get him to let them season a little. He cleans the crap out of them every time. And in turn things stick as if you welded them to it. And that's a real pain as much fish as we cook.(Yes I oil the skin)...
I told him to just leave the top open and let the neighborhood cats clean it...  :o ??? ;D
