Hi Mike..I just got a salt block 8x8 and have to season it first. I have a gas stove, am I right that you season on the top instead of the oven? You actually burn the salt? I think I wanna use the gas grill instead..waiting to hear from you. Thanks  Pam ; *))

Pam - FWIW, I have heated my salt block on the gas stove, in the gas oven, on the G2G, the SRG, and the charcoal 500x - no problem so far. I like using it for "smaller cooks" like appetizers, etc. I've used for shrimp, scallops. salmon, trout, small really nice beef chunks, onions, asparagus, tomatoes, and more. It is getting a bit smaller, but works well. Just don't add ANY salt to your prep. The block will take care of that. I've tried doing some herbs to add to a soup or stew as well - adds a new note... kinda fun.

I had one explode in my gas grill... they recommend not heating it in an oven for that reason! I would season it in a gas grill in stages just in case it explodes.

You have to bring it to temp very slowly before you use it the first time.

Pam... I seasoned mine on the gasser but you could use a stovetop. Just put the block on a wok ring to elevate it above the flame. You don't burn the block, just get it screaming hot but do it incrementally... start on low and very gradually bring it up to a high temperature and let it cool.

Although some companies say you can use the oven I would recommend against that in case it explodes.
