Mountain High BBQ Festival
« Reply #-1 on: August 09, 2013, 07:39:57 AM »
I usually cook with my buddy Billy as "Holy Smoke NC" (Next cooking in Salisbury, NC in September) but today I'm joining up with some home town friends as "Smokin Ours To Kick Yours" in Franklin, NC this weekend.  I'm doing chicken and each of the others are also totally focusing on one meat, so I'm sure we'll instill absolute fear in the competition -- at least via our in-your-face team name  ;)

I hope to have dumped all my bad karma in Greenwood a few weekends ago.  Nonetheless, we'll have a great time in the mountains.

What are you cooking the chicken on?

Out of concern for logistics (the Mempis is a bear to load up) I've been practicing chicken on the PBC for the last two weeks.  I think I've got it handled.

I think that is a wise choice.  Chicken and the PBC just seem to go together.

Results:

We finished 5th in Anything But and my chicken came in 8th, so two walks.  Our other entries tanked in spite of being (my opinion, of course) worthy contenders.  Overall we placed 42nd which is pretty bad.  We did achieve two goals, however.  First, we cooked right next to Myron Mixon and we set a goal to beat him in at least one category and we did (chicken).  Second, as always, we set the lofty goal of not finishing DAL (dead a$$*% last) and achieved that one, also.  The best part was four guys having a really great weekend.

Thanks for all the encouragement!   ;D
