At this year's Hog Happnin' in Shelby, NC they added a category (and a sponsor) and we judged BACON for the final category! We got four entries at our table. First was a bacon rosette around a slice of smoked sausage with a candied pecan on the top then all glazed with maple syrup -- fantastic and it carried our table. Second was bacon wrapped meatloaf -- it was a little dry but, what the heck, it had lots of bacon! Third was a big shrimp, battered, then wrapped with bacon, coated in panko crumbs and deep fried with a sprinkle of something zingy at the end -- it was my second favorite. Fourth was a kind of pot roast and potatoes with some bacon in it -- okay, but I could barely find the bacon.
This is a big contest for kid's charities in the area and I know the sponsorship meant a lot to the organizers. I'll buy some Wright's bacon on my next grocery run to show them how much I appreciate the gesture and the help. Editorial: Let's have more BACON categories
