Okra in black eyed peas? That is a new one.

Albert, you would never know you weren't born a Southerner, you have adapted well. Love that cornbread with the jalapeno in it. I would usually have a glass of cold buttermilk with those peas and cornbread.

Looks good!  I wasn't very fancy with our New Years Day black eyed peas -- I just warmed up a can with some added chopped onion and a smattering of bacon bits.

My grandpa (from Oklahoma) used to put his cornbread in his buttermilk while he was eating dinner and then after he was done he would eat the cornbread out of the glass like a dessert.  As a kid I thought that it was discusting but maybe I'll give it a try.
