HELP - frozen cabbage
« Reply #-1 on: January 24, 2014, 10:40:37 AM »
I went to the grocery the other day and bought a nice head of cabbage, and put it in the garage, it got real cold and froze my cabbage, da*m cold Ohio winters. Does anyone know if I can thaw this and fry it up or use it in something else? I hate to throw it away. Enquiring minds.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

You can thaw it in the refrigerator.  It will be wilted when thawed but will still make great golumpki (or whatever else you want to do with cooked cabbage).

My mother froze cabbage whole then thawed and used large leaves to make cabbage rolls. Nice and pliable.
Rest of it was used in any cooked dish you would use cabbage in, just drain very well.

Frozen cabbage isn't much good for anything requiring "crisp" texture because the ice crystals will break down the cellular structure and make it limp or wilted.  It is still perfectly good, however, for uses like soups, stews, cabbage rolls, etc. so it isn't a total disaster  ;D
