I've already achieved my comp dream of a GC, but now I'm not sure what I want to achieve from here on out.

I had the good fortune to cook all last year with a couple of guys and we had a very successful year competing in Backyard division, mostly KCBS comps. We had 2 GC's, a reserve and another GC at a local comp that was non-sanctioned, but used KCBS certified judges. This was out of seven comps. That level of success will spoil you.

For this year, I am competing as my own team with an old friend in a few comps. Hope to do half as well as I did with the other team last year, but beyond that I have no idea what I want to do with competing.

Biggest Competition Goal...I am a very fortunate and "lucky" fellow and have reached about all my competition goals.  The list of my goals in this wonderful hobby as I did them.

1. Try not to finish DAL in my first contest
2. Win my first meat category
3. Win my first Reserve or Grand Championship.
4. Qualify for the American Royal and the AR Invitational and cook in these prestigious events.
5. Get a bung into the Jack...win an invite to this great event. This World Championship contest was my biggest dream in contest cooking and I was fortunate enough to compete in it 4 times.

Dream Competitions other than the Jack Daniels that I never got the opportunity to cook in.

1. Harpoon Championship in Vermont
2. Caribbean Competition in San Juan PR
3. Fairbanks Alaska Contest
4. Dillard Georgia Contest

Why do I compete...are you kidding, it's all about the BBQ Groupies!!!

For me, it's the camaraderie and the lasting friendships you make with this great hobby along with all the fun in doing these events. My goodness, to get to cook, camp, drink some beer, listen to great music, maybe to hear your name called and win a little money, it doesn't get any better than that for a contest cook.

I wish I could still do it but the age thing is catching up with me.

Dave

Dave my dream is to one time cook something as good as you do, still working on it.

And I remember one of your avatars with that BBQ groupie on it.... that would be a dream come true too.

I don't have any aspirations to compete - even as much as I like cooking outdoors.
I love the outdoors experience most when it can be shared with friends and family. Then my goal is to be able to help them have a good time together and serve some food that we can all enjoy. (and don't screw up)

This Friday I'll be livin' the dream. Albert & Sylvia, Dee, Don, and Michael (H O S) - hopefully his wife - will be here for a cookout. We have spent some time together at the Fall Gatherings and it's gonna be great having them right here on the patio for the day. It is always such an honor when folks come over for food and fellowship.
Tommy and LA have been here.  LA will probably tell you it's like visiting an "old-folks" home compared to his get-togethers. I AM old folks...still fun, though.

Let the countdown begin...
