Best Container for Anova Use?
« Reply #-1 on: March 15, 2014, 02:06:28 PM »
My Anova has shipped.  I need to buy an 8 or 9-inch deep container to get started.  My first few cooks will probably be for just Marcia and me so it only needs to hold a couple of steaks or a tri-tip.

What container do you suggest?  Lid or not?

I use whatever fits well. Tall rather than short, and a lid won't fit. I use aluminum foil so evaporation is never an issue.

Also, I put the pot on the stove which I use to preheat the water, so the system comes to temperature very quickly. Only downside is that you need to watch so you don't exceed temperature.

I use a 10qt stock pot with mine, I fill it with hot water from the faucet which is usually around 115-120F.

I'm on the lookout for a polycarbonate container with lid but for now I use a stockpot with my Sansaire, fill it with hot tap water and cover with foil or plastic wrap.

That's what I'm thinking.  I'll cut a notch in the lid for the Anova.

Cambro 8SFSCW and SFC6.  About $20.

It's loaded with static electricity.

Wouldn't a straight sided stock pot work for that? How wide is the slot between the holder on the Immersion thingi and where you hang it? I'm also thinking small cooler, that's insulated.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Lodge Cast iron Hibachi
tons of cast iron

I think so.  I chose this 'cause I want to be able to look through the sides as the items cook.

How wide is the slot between the holder on the Immersion thingi and where you hang it?

I'm not certain what you're asking.  Maybe these two photos will answer.

I'm also thinking small cooler, that's insulated.

I thought about something insulated but decided that the Anova is a water heater that will be able to keep pace with the lexan thermal loss so there's no compelling reason for it.

I was asking about how it hangs over the edge of the container, how much room is there between hanger thing and immersion thing?   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Oh, you can clamp it (Clampett—my favorite was Elly May) ... You can clamp it to a container that is 1⅛" thick.

I have the feeling that you're looking for another dimension, like how far does the cylinder stick into the container or how much clearance is there between the cylinder and the container wall.

Does this help?

I'm not very bright.  If I'm not answering your question just keep asking.  Use different words.  I may get it ... eventually.
