Any master gardeners here
« Reply #-1 on: April 23, 2014, 02:25:20 PM »
I planted a few tomato plants a few days ago and some of them now have white spots on the leaves.  Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing this.  It is not fertilizer on the leaves because I did not use any.

My wife is a certified Master Gardener. She said it sounds like a lack of proper nutrients (fertilizer or good soil) or maybe just the plants are stressed from sitting in the nursery. Feed 'em and water 'em.

I am no where near a master gardener let along a gardener.

Why the plastic pipe and pastic bag? How did you set it all up?

A master gardener here, BUT, don't know very much   First, where are you located--that could have a big impact on what's happening.   Looks like it might be leafhoppers, BUT a bit early in most of the country for them critters.   Are they in pots or in the ground   IF they are in pots, could be the soil needs leaching from accumulated salts.   Other than that, have no clues.    Don't overwater and don't over fertilize--whatever you do, especially if it's early in the season for you.   That's about all I can add.

Im not sure thats powdery mildew,I have a big big problem with that, cant grow squash, doesnt look like what Ive seen for that, but bear in mind Im FAR away from being a gardening pro, very far.my new leaves that look just like yours are coming in green and healthy, knock on wood.

PM on my plants looks like a fuzzy white growth on top of leaves.

It's not powdery mildew.  I've had that on crepe myrtles.  That is a fuzzy substance.  This looks like the spots have been bleached.  The leaves are smooth.
