This was my first time cooking on the SRG and the first time that I have cooked a big piece of meat outside.
Acme Market had rib roast on sale for $4.77 so we decided to go get one. They also had turkey on sale for $.79, so we got one of those as well.
I did a lot of research and finally decided to jump in. There were different opinions about the bones, so I cut mine out. I also trimmed some outside fat off. I salted the roast with some sea salt and put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.
I pulled it about an hour before cooking and put my dry rub on. (Will go easier on that next time!) Into the SRG it went.
I will be begging for the Thermoworks Smoke for sure. This free one was hard to work with. And it was extremely windy as well. So I ended up cooking it more than planned.
The smell was incredible!
Now my wife just barely likes beef, and wants to be sure that it is dead before she eats it. My original plan was to finish a slice for her on the grill. But because it was windy and cold, decided to finish it in a skillet on the stove. I put foil and a towel on the big piece while we worked on the rest of the meal and the au jus.
It was not cooked evenly, so I will cook it at a lower temperature next time. I will also have a better thermometer for the next cook! But it was juicy and full of flavor. My wife usually leaves a lot of beef on her plate, but not this time. She didn't even leave any for the dog! LOL
I am loving this new grill and feel that it has a lot of potential to be my "go to" grill for the most part. Next up: baby back ribs!
