We went out Saturday morning for some day break Reds. Wasn't a big fish day but that was expected with the high water coming down the rivers... Just having the morning on the water is a good thing.
We picked up live shrimp but nothing seemed interested in them for the most part. Philip had a bright chartreuse grub with a gold spoon on it that we never expected to catch anything on. We were getting bored so he decided to give it a toss at a red moving along the grass line. (Their backs are out of the water in the shallow grass areas.) He landed the lure 3 feet in front of the fish and BAM ! he hit it right off the bat.
A few minutes went by and another came cruising along the same area. I think he actually hit the fish with the lure that cast...It sure looked like it. There was a big splash an BAM again it was fish on!
My day was less productive except for my monster bass... and a huge sail cat ( good fight) not food quality so much though...
And no that is not a huge shrimp!
But those little bass will hit anything....
I gutted out the reds and put them in heavy ice. Last night my sister and BinL came over and I grilled them up.
I cut the heads and tails off for my sisters benefit. I usually cook them with the heads on. It keeps the meat nice and moist and just takes less tending over all.
I made up some seasoning with butter, garlic, grape seed oil, and Cajun Shake. Turned out really good.
I picked up squash, sliced it in half and topped with Asiago cheese, bacon bits and fresh baby spinach S&P...
