Title: What Temperature Does Your PBC Run At?
Post by: pmillen on June 14, 2014, 01:45:47 AM
Do any of you monitor the temperature of your PBC's cooking chamber when burning a full basket of Kingsford blue?  How hot is it running?

Mine runs typically 260F to 310F at grate level during the times I have actually monitored it.

It is so consistent for me that I never really bother to check anymore however.

I've never followed the recommended PBC protocol. Full basket, 8 briquettes lit, runs 225-250.
Full basket, full mini chimney lit runs >350

I still use lighter fluid (I still need to get a chimney starter).

Once the lid is on it drops to ~215 and stays there, no matter how the vent is set.

225-260 depending on where I want it to run. I chock off the vent with a fridge magnet to get the lower temps. This is all measured at grill hight.

I also have used one of these fans.

I found it worked good but never really had the time to experiment with it much.

257F. I wanted a little hotter so vented the lid just slightly.Im thinking I'd like a brass ball valve on that lid.Would be able to fine tune temp anywhere you'd like it I would think?
