Title: Using pellets instead of wood chips
Post by: txtinman on September 18, 2017, 01:49:45 PM
I sometimes use wood chips in my Big Easy SRG and sometimes on my gas grill. I thought about trying pellets instead to see how they taste. I've only found them locally in 20 or 40 lb bags. Before I buy that big of a bag, I thought I would see if any one else has tried them and what results did they get. So, any one used pellets instead of wood chips in their grill.

You can order smaller bags from BBQers Delight. They have (at least I still think they do) a nice sampler pack.

Cant help ya on the SRG aspect of pellets but help will be on the way shortly.

All I use are pellets in my SRG's, TBE and my BEESR's.      Love the flavor and burn time

Plus with pellets you have a lot more choices of flavors to choose from  ;)

Thank you TMB. That's what I wanted to hear. BTW. I have a TBE also. How do you use the pellets with it?

With a Tommy ring.  I place the pellets around it so they stay up on the chamber and burn that way

Good call avoiding the Traeger pellets Tommy. They are alder based which means they will not burn as hot and clean as the competition.

Check out Walmart for pellets as well. Pit Boss Comp blend is nice and they also have B&B (which are rebranded BBqers Delight).

Academy Sports carries the B&B brand as well

I use pellets in my SRG.
I first tried wood chips but found that the pellets start & burn better than chips.
They also burn much longer.
