Title: 2013 2 star MAK grill
Post by: zueth on March 19, 2018, 06:55:40 PM
I found a 2013 MAK 2 Star on craigslist for $1700, looks brand new like it has hardly been used.  Is this a good deal?

I assume i would need to upgrade to the flash fire ignition for $200.  Would I also need to upgrade to the flame zone for $400?

Do you have pics that you can share? 5 years old and $1700 seems reasonable... but I’ll bet you can grab it for $1500. The two items you mention are optional... you wouldn’t need either right away. If your igniter works, maybe consider using it until it fails and then upgrade. And all 2 Stars come with the Flame Zone... you just won’t have the latest Funnel Flame Zone. If this will be your primary grill, then the Funnel Flame Zone is well worth the $$ IMO. But if you are gonna pay asking price and then add another $600 in upgraded parts, I’d suggest buying new and getting the bumper to bumper warranty that it would come with AND all of the latest and greatest components.  I don’t think I’d pay more then $1500 for it. At $1500 I’d probably do it.

One thing you don’t mention is accessories. Does it come with any? That would change everything as MAK accessories are expensive and add up quickly.

WOW! Does the backyard come with it?!?! Looks to be in great condition. I can tell it’s done a good amount of high heat grilling... you can see “browning” on the front of the cooking chamber. Not a big deal at all as you cannot wear a MAK out... I just happen to be a bit anal... lol. That is one of the things I like about the new Funnel Flame Zone. It buffers the exterior of the cooking chamber from the super high heat. I have done a ton of grilling on mine, and absolutely no browning.

And...if you want to ...you can get rid of the browning via 120 grit metal sandpaper and an orbital sander. Do the entire exterior - and you will have the current "pre-scratched" finish.
I did this on the MAK I restored and brought up to current features at the time ( 2015?)

I forgot about that. Don’t you have before/after pictures? Would love to see them! Do you have the new Funnel Flame Zone now? If yes, do you have browning again?

I’d be shocked if he found a buyer at that price! My guess is $1200 at best.

Well I thought I had them....I can't find the thread. If anyone finds it please let me know. I was about re-building a MAK 2 Star. It was #48. I now call it #48-3 ;D

I was thinking over priced as well. Not in the market for anything over $300 currently but I'll see if that changes or gets updated.

Zeuth, That 2 Star already has a FlameZone built in.  It's not the current FlameZone, but it is a FlameZone.
