Title: Things that we need to pay attention to..MUST READ
Post by: teesquare on April 12, 2018, 01:05:15 PM: There are 2 things that we need all members to please take note of:

As we have grown, we still want to maintain our friendly, mutual respect tone, and that seems to be doing well. However - there have been a couple of occasions which one of the Admins or Moderators needed to chat with a member about something that was important to the health of the site, or to protect the member himself from.

SEVERAL attempts were made by e-mail, and PM to just help a member in this regard, and look after the best interest of the forum. No scolding tone, not threats of banning...just friendly request for our mutual best interest....

NONE of the PMs or e-mails were even acknowledged by the member. Eventually the decision was made to ban this member. Why? In one instance -photo dumping - after he had been asked several times to not do this and it was fully explained to him that we will LOSE OUR HOSTING ACCOUNT if the service we use perceives us as trying to be a "photo hosting site". As long as there is supportive text describing what is pictured, or a recipe - no problem. Had he responded to any of the e-mails or PMs....he would still be here on LTBBQ today. It really frustrates me that we could not find a way to get him to simply communicate with us on this matter. Further, it frustrated me to the point that, we had to ban him.

Look....folks this place exists solely because we all wanted a place that was not run like a police-state. And where we can trust that ALL of us will offer mutual respect as the social tie that binds us together as a community.

So, 2 things - please:
Post pictures!!! Please - post pictures...*BUT* be sure to add in relevant text about the pictures. YOU can help protect LTBBQ - better than the Admins and Mods having to scan all pots and threads daily.

And - if an Admin or Moderator reaches out to you in an e-mail or PM, you should feel compelled to respond....TRUST THIS - there is no intent to scold, belittle, talk down to you, or in ANY way - make you feel bad....WE are not "policemen". WE are not on any kind of power trip ( Who in their right mind would feel ANY "power" in being a Mod. or Admin. on a forum? ;) :D :D

Seriously....we want to grow LTBBQ - but we will not allow our tradition and philosophy of "Food, Fun and Fellowship" to die for the sake of growth. We have a community based on trust, and friendship...Let's continue to protect our traditions.

Post by: TentHunteR on April 12, 2018, 05:58:14 PM: Let me take a moment to add to what Tee said, and to assure everyone that we never enjoy or take banning someone lightly. It is a last resort measure, and is never a reactionary decision made by any single moderator here.

Over the years here we've had to ban very few people. And none of those were done unless ALL of the moderators agreed it was necessary for the well being of the forum.

We value each and every member here more than you can ever realize!

Like Cliff said, we do nothing knee jerk. We talk and scratch our heads and ponder because we want to make good decisions when the need arises.

Luckily for all of us, you are a bunch of great guys and gals and make our duties easy.

If we ever have to move a post or do some sort of modification we always reach out to the poster and let them know what we did and why we did it.

It is just being respectful and it is the right thing to do.

Trust me when I say, Tim did not want to do this but he tried and tried and tried and was just left know choice and all of us moderators were in full agreement.

Everybody keep up the good work, just keep swinging over in your comfortable old flannel shirts and keep throwing logs on the fire, y'all are doing great. :)

I have tried to ban the Jets a few times maybe next year lol

It is super easy being a global moderator on this board as we rarely have to get involved in any posts. That just proves that this is a great cooking forum and it is because of all the fantastic members. We are FAMILY! We have mutual respect for everyone and treat everyone fairly across the board. Yes, once in a blue moon someone goes over the line and has to be cautioned and the last resort is banning someone, which is NOT what we want to do.

Post by: TMB on April 13, 2018, 09:06:06 AM: Taking someone off the forum can't be an easy decision and I know Tee, Cliff, Smoke and Mioke had a rough time making that decision but it must be done from time to time.

I said it before and I'll say it again.... This is by far the best cooking forum on the net bar none.

Since Tee and I talked many moons ago about this forum what he was wanting to do and the type of folks we need to make it the best forum I'd say Tee hit it out of the park!

My (now well repeated ;)) mantra has always been: " I merely built a playground. The playground rules are simple. In fact The Golden Rule just about covers it....YOU the members....make the playground fun. If you are not using it - it rusts and weeds grow.....But if you use it and have fun...you will tell others to come play here."

Thanks Tee. The other forum I was on is run like a police state by the administrator. That's why I migrated here. The vibe here is SO much nicer.
