Title: Zπ! in Abermarle NC
Post by: teesquare on November 29, 2011, 01:50:16 PM
The actual name of the place  a Z with the symbol for Pi  (π = 3.14....the mathmatical ratio of circumference to diameter of a circle)

The specialty - as you have probably guessed -  ;) is PIZZA! And - some of the best pizza I have eaten. The crust had that perfect combination of of crunch and pull - great texture and it tasted so good - you can't just leave it on the plate!

The selection of micro-brews was top notch and they have some incredible pizza combinations as well!

But - for me the show stealer was the house nachos!

Beyond a doubt - these were the best nachos I have ever tasted! I typically shy away from nachos at any restaurant. They tend to be salty, and greasy.... But A friend ordered them to try - and they were amazing. Pulled, smoked pork, pickled jalapeno slices, sweet red onion, some Alabama white BBQ sauce, and several kinds of cheese. Unbelievable!!!

If you are ever in the Albermarle area - or within a coupel of hours by car - it is well worth your time for a great meal, wonderful beer and fantastic service.
Highly recommended.

Tim, thank you for the review and kind words. My son and daughter-in-law are co-owners and he is head chef of this restaurant. He learned to cook pizza from a French Culinard trained chef at a place called The Miner's Saloon in Cook City, MT. He makes his dough from scratch every day and all the pizzas are hand tossed and made with fresh and local ingredients. Like Tim said he has a great craft beer and wine selection, again featuring North Carolina choices as much as possible. So far it has been a lot of hard work and long hours but this little restaurant is doing well in a little small town.

Thanks Tim, I am glad you enjoyed it.

Ken-
I just calls 'em like I see 'em! I will return there anytime I am in the area. I still can't get the nachos off my mind. The beer was great - i had the Double Bastard ( the wife thought it must have been named for me :o ;D ) And the pizzas were over- the- top- great.... but those nachos....thaose may be James Beard Award worthy ;D

Sounds like a good pizza place to me. Not far from me so next time I am in Waxhaw I guess I will have to run over there

These are pics of their basic menu. He has added some things since these were made and continually has specials. I have heard raves of his smoked salmon pizza.

I spent last night in Albemarle and based on the reviews here I asked the folks at the hotel desk about the restaurant.  I wanted to check it out for dinner and refreshments.  Unfortunately, I was informed the restaurant closed a year or so ago.  Darn! :'(

That was my son's restaurant. The concept, menu and running it was him and his wife's. He had a partner who put money in and wanted to run things even though he had no clue. Even though the restaurant was a hit in town the 90 hours a week with a baby took it's toll. He sold out to his partner and it lasted a couple of months on the reputation the folded.

I'm sorry, Ken. But I can imagine the difficulty of a new baby and the brutal nature of running a restaurant. I hope they are doing well and eventually get back into what they love.

Agreed!  I stay in Albemarle several times each year as I attend shooting competitions held nearby.  Friday night I was just looking for a good place to eat and remembered this recommendation.

I hope the new parents and young one are doing great.

Also hope the family is doing well.  Wish I had known about this place before.  The group I ride with go to Morrow Mountain probably 2-3 times a year and we're always looking for a new place to eat lunch.

He works for Tryon Drisbuting now selling craft beers and wines. They are living on Topsail Island on the N C coast, a block off the beach. He loves his job, he gets to interact with people and sell products he loves. His wife is a great Mom and manages the apartments they live in. My grandbaby started first grade this year and they are all happy and living large, which makes Poppa happy. I only see them a few times a year but Facebook and videos help.

He started with them in Charlotte but when the job on the coast came up he jumped on it. He loves his job which is a good thing and not that common.

Yeah, I'm thinking there's not much more popular a guy, at the beach, than the guy who's bringin' the beer ! ! !

I can't remember the name of the Marine base there but they are one of his biggest customers. You would think they just wanted any old beer but he says they drink a lot of the craft beers, especially the NC beers.

My guess would be New River.  They're a lot closer than Cherry Point.

Wish I could've tried his pies, though ! ! !
