Rudy's World's Worst BBQ
« Reply #-1 on: March 19, 2015, 09:37:26 PM »
No time to cook tonight, so we decided on some take-out...There's a Texas chain here in Albuquerque called Rudy's BBQ. Their slogan is "World's Worst BBQ" and ironically, it's pretty darned good.

Tonight's selections were pulled pork, pork loin, smoked sausage and creamed corn. Here's a snapshot of my plate of awesomeness.

Rudy's sure has growed some in the last 25 years. I used to go to their first (and then only) store in Leon Springs whenever I visited my parents in San Antonio. As I recall, the brisket and ribs were decent and the sausage very good.

I survived a lot of the "bad years" when Hawaii had a singular lack of culinary diversity by bringing home Rudy's sauce, Elgin hot guts, and boxes full of Taco Cabana tortillas.

That is a memorable slogan. I won't forget it. I am sure that is why they picked it.

Their food looks really good!

I was stationed at Camp Bullis right around the corner from the original for years. We ate there all the time, I've been afraid to try the chains in case it wasn't as good as the first. May have to give it a try.

Can't think of a better "trio" of Texas best to take home if you could only take three things back to Hawaii. I'm in Austin for a few months but haven't made it out to Elgin yet, although their in all the local stores now. I may head out to Lockhart this afternoon for a BBQ field trip.

Have eaten at several Rudy's from Albuquerque to San Antone and they are all pretty good.   Also noted that one day may be great, the next Ok, but not super.   Like the heat in chili here, it depends on what they are using that day.
