finished where i started
« Reply #-1 on: October 14, 2012, 04:42:52 PM »
i have always used a old weber kettle and a brinkman smoker for all my grilling and smoking needs up until 3 years ago.  then i went a little nuts.  since that time i have owned, sold or exchanged.......

DB green mountain pellet grill, traeger lil tex elite, memphis pro, mak 2 star, two mak 1 stars, 49er weber kettle, hasty bake gourmet, old weber platium, cookshack SM25, Uds, ss drum, 22 wsm.

thats alot.  when i add up all the money i get a little mad.  welp, say goodbye to....

she was sold yesterday morning.  and at 10 am i replaced her w/ these.

get that dog out of the picture.

lets fire these bad girls up.

its funny where life takes us.  i finished up right where i started.  kettle and a smoker.  were where sitting on the patio last night watching smoke roll.  my wife laughs at me.  you know dear.  you just a weber guy.  you don't need a fancy smoker/grill to make good food.  lol.  oh well.  i guess i stick to what works.  remember my wife says one more grill.  well, she says after i sell some more grills i can get a pitbarrel cooker to go w/ my webers, mak 2 star.

Dr.Phil says:

"Your wife is a keeper Sparky and it is OK to get a Pit Barrel Cooker..but watch out, it churns out better tasting grub than a WSM ever could!!"

That Dr. Phil is always lurking around!!

I am gonna miss Hazel Sparky but ya got some darn nice pits to work with!! Weber has been around so long I am sure there are many folks that started with them and have come back. One thing is certain, Weber will always be around for us, so when we are done experimenting with other pits, we will have always have them as a safety valve..so to speak.

Weber is like the "old flannel shirt" of the BBQ world!!  :)

I'm willing to bet if we come back and revisit this thread in 10+ years that we'll see that Weber Kettle still being used.

My Weber Kettle is at least 14 - 15 years old. It was left at the house when we moved in. My daughter was in Kindergarten then and is now a Senior in high school, so that was almost 13 years ago.

I showed it a little love, cleaned the old boy up, replaced the grates and started using it. Since then I've had to replace the handles, the one-touch cleaning system & the grates a second time.  The kettle itself has a few dings and looks a little faded, but he still works like a champ!

It's like an old friend!

I've been meaning to get a kettle as well. When the wife asked me if I could make hamburgers on the WSM, I said no. That didn't go over too well.  :o
Gotta get something to make her happy.  ;D
Did that little charcoal holder thing-a-ma-jig come with it?

I think they have a thread on the Virtual Bullet where they show how to use the WSM as a grill...of course I would ignore that if I wanted to get a new Kettle ;)
