Turkey in the Pit Barrel Cooker
« Reply #-1 on: October 21, 2012, 12:03:28 PM »
I figure it is always good to do a turkey in October so I don't mess anything up on Thanksgiving!! Last year Momma used the oven but not this year...not with Pit Barrel Cooker on stand-by!!
Injected a whole bottle of Cajun Injectors Creole Butter and Cajun Shake for the rub.
My brother says they have a neat little deal at Cajun Injector. If you buy -4- or more of their injectable marinades they send you a free deluxe injector...and it is nice!! http://www.cajuninjector.com/
Here are the players:

This is a 16 lb Zachy Farms Turkey that should take -4- hours in the PBC....after 4 hours is when you check the temp of the Turkey.

I was looking at that product to try. Webstaurant online store had them on sale. But the shipping charge killed the deal. Think I had a bottle of sauce and an injector in the cart and the shipping was 16 bucks.

What rate on your deal?

Glad you asked my High Desert Pellet Brother!!
Just set the turkey on the hangers. I followed the video and have the turkey breast down. I inserted 2 of the hooks the opposite way so the hooks all hang over the rods from the turkey side. I am hoping that will make the turkey easier to remove than what the video shows on the PBC site..seemed like Noah had a slight struggle with the last hook.........

A hanging basket of some sort would seem to make sense. Would make it easier to remove too.

I forgot where I read this online but there was an interview with Noah of Pit Barrel Cookers and he mentioned about something in the works to make hanging a turkey easier. I didn't have any problems hanging it and I was thinking with the way I orientated the hooks I could just wear my rubber heat gloves and grab the turkey underneath and lift it straight off the hooks into a large foil pan......will keep everyone posted about that!!
