Work Sharp Knife Sharpener
« Reply #-1 on: March 04, 2013, 10:46:07 PM »
I'd been looking at this little tool for a week or so and decided to give it a go. It's an abrasive belt type knife and tool sharpener. I've always had a problem getting an edge on any of my knives for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I'd get a shaving edge, most times not. I've used a Chef's Choice sharpener for about 15 years now and the discs have started getting worn. Anyway, I received the tool this afternoon and within an hour and a half, all my kitchen knives have a hair popping edge, the old Buck 110 folder that gives me headaches trying to sharpen has an edge like new from the factory. It comes with 2 sets of 3 sharpening belts and if you register the warranty online you get another 2 sets. My Kershaw with a serrated edge on the back edge came out perfect with a factory sharp edge that shaves. My Henckels kitchen knives are all shavers as is the meat cleaver from Academy and a 12" granton edge slicer. I heartily recommend it. Northern Tool, Amazon, among others sells it for around 70$. I got mine on Ebay for 68$ and no shipping or taxes. Did a Buy it Now this past Saturday and got it this afternoon

Are there different guides for different blade angles?

I checked out their web site last night and looked at some of the videos there.  That thing is really impressive. It sharpens not only ever type of knife but axes, shovels, lawn mower blades among other things.  It has different belts for types of edges and a simple, easy to use adjustment for the degree for different edges.  Check out their website.  They have been making dentist drills for decades and are located in Oregon.  I guess getting a quality knife sharpener is like biting the bullet and buying a Thermapen as the quality thermometer.  Dee

Yes, there's a 20o guide for most kitchen knives and a 25o guide for outdoors knives and kitchen knives with a thick blade. A guide for scissors and a starter kit of sharpening belts.
P80 Coarse Abrasive Belt (Quantity 2)
P220 Medium Belt (Quantity 2)
6000 Fine Honing Belt (Quantity 2)
You can take the guide(s) off and the head of the unit can swivel down so you can sharpen outdoor tools like shovels, axes, lawnmower blades
It really is a well thought out tool
There's a couple of really good videos on Youtube that shows it in action

Picked one up a few months back. Works great. Couple different guides from knives, scissors, and can even do say an ax.
