Can anyone recommend one?

Or should I just go pick up anyone cause they are all about the same?

Raytech makes nice stuff.

I bought on on closeout at Lowe's recently for $20, just to have a backup. Made by General. Seems to be pretty good, tho I have not tested it.

We've got one from Thermoworks for shooting beans in our steam table...    They are pricey, though.

Is it safe to say spending more then $50 is too much then? It seems the places I have looked online are either around $40 or $150 nothing in between...

Get the one from Harbor Freight. It is on sale almost every month. I have one and it works great. The expensive ones are for the professional field. They have wider temp ranges and are more accurate. But not worth the extra money for what you will be doing with it.

Amazon has a bunch in the $16 range. I just have never wanted one since it only reads surface temp. That's fine if you want to read your grill temp, I am a nut for cooking gadgets so never would knock anyone else's toys!!!  ;D Don

I have the Thermoworks IRK, It was on a special a few years ago.

Best of both worlds, IR and a probe.

Does internal and external temps.

Good for shooting the temps on brake calipers...
