We've all been there!

Immediately after the worship service and on the spur of the moment I asked Sylvia if I could invite the preacher and his wife and another couple that are friends of ours over for lunch at the house.

My house is a mess!

We do not have anything planned!

There's not enough time to fix anything!

We don't have anything to fix!

All legitimate concerns and I understand my wife (sort'a).

Well... off I go to gather our friends and asked them over for lunch if they gave us at least 45 minutes before they came over.

Short on time,  I drag Sylvia off to the store. We purchased six "choice" rib eyes, some asparagus, hollandaise sauce mix, baking potatoes. To hold us until food was ready I also picked up the ingredients to fix some bruschetta (Italian bread will do when they are out of bruschetta) with pico de gallo.

So far so good!

Dee taught me how to do baked potatoes in the SRG, so here we go! Canola oil and kosher salt  and into the SRG.

Prepared Steaks with kosher salt, fresh crushed peppercorn and into fridge.

Next... the asparagus, and I am almost there. OH/OH, everyone is beginning to show up.

So far so good!

Bruschetta done and preacher not here... no sweat

The rest of us enjoy the beginnings of good fellowship, after all it is about the get together and not only the food.

Preacher shows up with his son that has limited time because he has to get back home to study for a major calculus exam... no sweat, I have the baked potatoes in the SRG.

Horrors! The 4-burner I put the preacher's son's steak to cook on is completely out of gas.

No sweat! Change the bottle from SRG to the 4-burner... now what about the uncooked baked potatoes?

Well folks, you've been there no more details. Poor steaks, poor baked potatoes, pretty good asparagus.

A wonderful afternoon with wonderful understanding friends!

This gathering brought me back to what it is all about: GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD FELOWSHIP, and a bounty that no one left hungry and everyone grateful for what was on the table we all shared.

Praise the Lord!
God bless you,
Albert

Albert, You're right.  We've all been there.  Dee

Although it is highly unlikely that a clergyman would ever accept an invitation to my home, I always keep a pizza in the freezer in case other similar plans turn bad.

And Albert - If you use Hollandaise sauce mix (especially the powdered kind), the terrorists win.  Put 3 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt and a pinch of cayenne in a blender.  Blend on low speed and gradually add in 1/2 cup melted butter.  Continue to blend until thickened and smooth (about 15 seconds). It's that easy.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion

Jaxon... I tried to do like you did at your house last weekend and make everyone feel at home and stress-free.

Had a really, really good time with you, Deb, IR2DUM (Don) and Dee.

I am going to see if one of these days I can pull Tommy, Two Pockets and maybe even John from as far as Jackson.

Thanks for a great weekend Jaxon!
God bless you,
Albert
