Finally pulled the trigger
« Reply #-1 on: November 01, 2013, 01:22:03 PM »
I've been looking for some type of charcoal cooker for quite a while now. I've been happy with my TBE, BEESR, and CB Infrared Grill, but sometimes you just gotta have that charcoal taste...

So, after seeing all the good posts and reviews of the PBC, I spent the last 3-4 weeks trying to find something negative about it. The only negative comments I could find were from folks that haven't actually used it. :-)

Ordered mine this morning. Something's got to give though. I need to build a storage shed or put a cooker or two on craigslist. I haven't ever actually my ECB, so maybe that one will have to go.

Best of luck with it - from what I've seen on the forum, some amazing cooks come out of that barrel  ;)

The PBC is a 30 gallon power smoker which holds a bunch of grub and has a very small footprint. Go get yourself some lighter fluid and follow Noah's videos and you are in for some great food.

The PBC might be the worlds best chicken cooker  :)

Congratulations

So, here's the logical follow up...Thanksgiving turkey...TBE or PBC?

I'm doing a turkey in the SRG for the first time this Thanksgiving.  So far, I've only cooked a single pork butt and a couple of chickens - both turned out quite good, and am hoping for the same with the turkey.  :)

Tough call.  I've done both and wouldn't want to choose.  I'd opt to cook one of each so the problem disappears.

I love my PBC!  It is so simple and almost foolproof AND imparts a great charcoal flavor.  For medium-time cooks like chicken and ribs it'll do a great job with minimum muss and fuss.  Plus, we've got a good sized batch of PBC drivers here who keep posting new ideas and results!

Another vote for the PBC. I own an SRG , and the PBC...

The additional charcoal flavor would be my reason for cooking any poultry int he PBC as my first choice. I like the speed of cook in the SRG - but it is gas fired.

PBC - 100 times out of 100 if I am not in a hurry, and I want true charcoal fired, "pit" flavor.

I don't own a PBC yet.  And I use the word YET real loosely since the more I read about
it and after seeing what it can do in posts and in person at the Gathering I am really really
leaning towards picking it up to go along side my 2 Webers and 2 pellet grills.  If I don't get
it before Thanksgiving then I will be doing our turkey on my WSM.
