A member of another board informed me that Barry's method has been improved upon.  You get the same result, but it's much easier.

I know, right?

I remember this thread from way back when, and even tried to cut up a bird like that once. CB wouldn't have been too proud of my effort. That was about the time I discovered leg quarters and haven't cooked a whole bird since, but it is a great way to separate the white from the dark cooking times

How well I remember the long trips we made in summer on the "blue highways" long before the Interskate.  You also took me back to the "sprinkler" your mom used - mine had one too.

One the other note, this looks like the way I want to split a chicken.  Will definitely try my hand at it.
