I got a box today...

Very well packaged...

Came fully assembled out of the box. Just had to install the handle...

Enough with the picture show. Time to test it out! Traeger in a Memphis...

Filled the 5 lb hopper with hickory pellets...

After 5 minutes we got smoke...

I let it run on high for 40 minutes to burn off the residue. Meanwhile I pulled out a dry aged rib-eye coated with greek seasoning...

Cooked the steak for 15 minutes...

Plated with a salad...

Close ups...

The steak was great!

My take on the initial cook is the grill got hot but I think for high temp grilling a controller change out is in order. And maybe some flame tamers and the drain pan removed. But this is no different than any other Traeger.

It is a little heavy but still manageable to carry. The lid has latches and the handle allows for carrying. Will be great for camping or tailgating. It can run off a 400W inverter so it is very portable.

I like that it came almost fully assembled. Just had to install a handle and then do the burn-in.

The reason I bought this grill was for camping. Between this and my Big Easy I should be able to eat like a king while camping ;)

Looks like a fun size grill Muebe.  ENJOY :P  That Steak looked delicious!!!  Have fun!  Also, use whatever pellet brand you want, that sticker telling you which pellet to use means absolutely nothing.

Yeah it is just a way to try and get people to use their pellets ;)

what are the running temps of
Smoke, Med, High ???

They are not temps Jack. It is a timing algorithm that has 3 speeds. I am probably going to build a custom PID controller for it ;)

That looks great muebe!!  Been waiting for the Green Mountain Tailgater to come out for over a year to get one for the Cabin.  May just have to grab one of these instead.  Keep us posted !

Being new to the wonderful world of pellet grills, I am kinda shocked that Mfg's try to push their pellets off as being mandatory for optimal reuslts in their cookers...I mean an auger is an auger right??  Maybe ash production comes into play. I guess I am no better than them...I went with GMG pellets to go with my Boone, but maybe later I will get adventurous!!

Congrats on the tailgater Muebe, it looks like it is gonna be fun...would grill grates help with the searing??

Smoke what really will help is a new controller. High does not get hot enough ;)

Will your memphis sear a steak with no extra accessories?

Yes! As good as my Charbroil RED!

When I change the thermostat in the PTG it will give a great sear.

Just got done installing a PID to my PTG ;)

Now I can dial it in to hold temp within a few degrees or create swings for smoke!

So I fired up the PTG with the new PID empty to get it calibrated. The thermocouple is located at the back of the grill just above the grate. I ran the auto tune and have had a +/- 10 degree variance at 350F. It has been maintaining temp for the last 1 1/2 hours ;)

After seeing your PID modification muebe I'm starting to believe that I might need to get me a PTG for camping since at the earliest MAK might be coming out with a unit sometime in 2013!?  Course I'd have to get me a "muebe PID" installed ...  ;D :D ;) ... Lancaster isn't that far away  ::)  Might need to visit my Sister-in-Law in Victorville and make a side trip  8)

So the PID install is now complete. Installed a front panel mounted 5 amp fuse to protect everything and a on/off switch for the auger. The switch is for shutting off control to the auger from the PID. This is helpful when making adjustments to the PID during start up so there is not a temp overshoot.

Custom fuse holder mounted under the pellet hopper cover ;)

Ok so I said that I was done with the PID mods. After grilling at high heat on the PTG I realized that the compartment where the PTG is installed is small and gets really hot at high temps. I am not sure how much heat the PID can take so I installed a voltage regulator and a 12VDC case fan that will blow air on the PID...
