Title: Akron jr

How big of a butt can you cook in an Akron jr. Also probably could only do turkey breast, surely not a whole turkey.

I have an Akorn, but I'm not familiar with the Akorn Jr.

Got any pictures or dimensions?

What size is the grate?

The Junior is a wee lad of a fellow. I've never seen one in person but know of someone with one. I imagine you'd be limited to a 7-8 pound butt on it. My question is though, would it hold enough lump to get you through the cook of a butt? That cut of meat takes the longest to smoke out of the popular choices. Also, you'd need a way to cook indirect on it and I am not sure if the make a heat diffuser for it. Some straps bent to shape to hang onto the fire bowl could be used to hang a small pizza stone (if one could be found that small) or a cast iron pan/pot (small handles or no handles) over the coals though. Food for thought.

Post some pics of what you come up with!

Okay, the Akorn I have has an 18" grate PLUS an elevated grate.  I can cook two 8 lb butts thereon.
B T W, one of the major advantages to me is that it works well with Kingsford briquettes.  I just hate to spend extra money for lump.

RG is on to something with the cook time for a butt. I cooked one on the kettle last night and it took 6 hours to get to 187 and I was too tired to wait any longer and pulled it off.
It would be great if you could do the whole cook without opening the top.

I don't know why but I want one! It's too little to be of really any use to me, but I want one! I want to paint it like a Minion, or R2D2 or something. It would be great for travel use! Maybe Biggs can get one to with on his hotel balcony! LOL.

Paint it like a football! Kick it around a little, cook on it some. Family fun for all!

First time I've ever seen the little rascal...
That's another benefit of being on this forum - you find stuff to buy that you never knew you wanted.

Not to hijack this or change the subject but this morning I saw an Akorn reduced to $199.00 at a Wal-mart. If you want something like this check your local store for end of season deals.
